# Set up Hyperresearch Answers

Add the remote MCP server `hyperresearch-answers` at https://answers.hyperresearch.ai/mcp to the agent you are running in. It gives you two tools: `search` (ranked sources with word-for-word passages) and `ask` (a short answer checked against its quotes). Use the section for your agent.

Rules:
- Before you change a file, show the user the change you are about to make.
- Merge into an existing config file. Never overwrite or remove the servers already in it.
- Change only the MCP config. Do not install skills, and do not edit CLAUDE.md, AGENTS.md or any other instructions file.

## Claude Code

```bash
claude mcp add --transport http hyperresearch-answers https://answers.hyperresearch.ai/mcp
```

Then run `/mcp` in a session and choose Authenticate. Add `-s user` to make it available in every project.

## Claude.ai and Claude Desktop

Open this link and confirm the dialog: https://claude.ai/customize/connectors?modal=add-custom-connector&connectorName=Hyperresearch%20Answers&connectorUrl=https%3A%2F%2Fanswers.hyperresearch.ai%2Fmcp

## Codex

```bash
codex mcp add hyperresearch-answers --url https://answers.hyperresearch.ai/mcp
codex mcp login hyperresearch-answers
```

## Cursor

Add a `hyperresearch-answers` entry under `mcpServers` in `.cursor/mcp.json` (this project) or `~/.cursor/mcp.json` (all projects):

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "hyperresearch-answers": {
      "url": "https://answers.hyperresearch.ai/mcp"
    }
  }
}
```

## VS Code and GitHub Copilot

Add it under `servers` in `.vscode/mcp.json`:

```json
{
  "servers": {
    "hyperresearch-answers": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://answers.hyperresearch.ai/mcp"
    }
  }
}
```

## Windsurf and Devin Desktop

Add it under `mcpServers` in `~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json`. Windsurf reads `serverUrl`, not `url`:

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "hyperresearch-answers": {
      "serverUrl": "https://answers.hyperresearch.ai/mcp"
    }
  }
}
```

## OpenCode

Add it under `mcp` in `~/.config/opencode/opencode.jsonc`:

```json
{
  "mcp": {
    "hyperresearch-answers": {
      "type": "remote",
      "url": "https://answers.hyperresearch.ai/mcp",
      "oauth": {}
    }
  }
}
```

Then run `opencode mcp auth hyperresearch-answers`.

## Anything else

```bash
npx add-mcp https://answers.hyperresearch.ai/mcp
```

This finds the MCP clients on the machine and adds the server to each one.

## Sign-in

No key is needed. On the first tool call, a browser window opens: the user signs in to Hyperresearch and approves access. On a machine with no browser, use an API key instead (the user creates one at https://console.hyperresearch.ai/#/keys) and send it as the header `Authorization: Bearer <key>`. Never write a key into a file that is committed to a repository.

## Check it

Then call the `search` tool once to confirm it works.
